Rosacea is a chronic skin condition that causes facial redness, broken blood vessels and bumps that look like acne. If you tend to flush or blush easily you may have rosacea. Although it can affect anyone, it is more likely to occur in fair-skinned individuals aged 30-50. The exact cause of rosacea is unknown; however, there are several possible factors that may play a role in its development.
There are also also several things that may trigger a flare or aggravate rosacea, including but not limited to: sun exposure, wind, hot beverages, alcohol, spicy foods and emotional stress. If you have rosacea, it’s important to avoid any aggravating factors as well as use a broad-spectrum sunscreen daily. Medical treatments for rosacea include prescription topical creams and oral medications. Laser treatments using lasers that target the blood vessels can also be very effective treatments.
