Atopic dermatitis (AD), a type of eczema, is an inflammatory condition of the skin that causes dry itchy skin. It tends to affect those with a personal or family history of asthma and allergies (hay fever). AD mot commonly occurs in babies and young children and often improve with age, but can persist into adulthood. Diligent skin care with gentle cleansers and moisturizers is important to control eczema. For flares, treatment can include a combination of prescription medicated creams, moisturization, and other treatments.
