Yes, miraDry is safe in all skin types. MiraDry is an in-office procedure that utilizes microwave energy to permanently eliminate sweat and odor glands in the underarm area. The energy that is being used is color-blind so it does not target the skin pigment at all and is completely safe in all skin types, even dark skin. In addition, there is a cooling mechanism on the tip that soothes and protects the skin.
WHAT IS THE PROCEDURE LIKE?
The procedure is customized for each person. Prior to the treatment, local anesthesia is administered to the area to numb the area and ensure that you are comfortable throughout the treatment. The procedure generally takes about an hour. After the treatment, you can return to your normal activities immediately and exercise within a few days.
HOW WILL I FEEL AFTER THE TREATMENT?
After the treatment you may experience soreness, swelling, tingling or numbness in the area. This is temporary and typically resolves in a few days to weeks. No permanent side effects have been reported with miraDry.
WHAT KIND OF RESULTS CAN I EXPECT?
You will have an immediate reduction in your sweat and the sweat glands do not regrow so the effect will be permanent. As with any treatment, results vary person to person.
ISN’T SWEATING IMPORTANT?
Yes, but not in your armpits! The underarms only contain about 2% of your body’s total sweat glands. Therefore, you will still sweat normally everywhere else and sweat when you need to maintain your body temperature and cool your body.
HOW DO I KNOW IF THE TREATMENT IS FOR ME?
MiraDry is not just for individuals who excessively sweat under their arms, but really anyone who desires less sweating and odor in their underarm area.
It’s ideal for people who:
